Nelson Mandela University, formerly Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, is a public university in South Africa. Established in 2005, it comprises the former University of Port Elizabeth , the Port Elizabeth Technikon and Vista University's Port Elizabeth campus.
Biography. Born on 18 July 1918 at Mvezo, near Qunu in the former Transkei, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela spent much of his childhood being groomed to become a chief. He matriculated at Healdtown Methodist Boarding School and went on to study at Fort Hare University College where he met Oliver Tambo.

Nelson Mandela University is the largest higher education institution in the Eastern and Southern Cape, with around 27,000 students on campus every year. To satisfy the demand, there are seven different campuses.
