    • Globally Unique Temporary Identifier

      • • GUTI stands for Globally Unique Temporary Identifier which is allocated by AMF. • It is temporary field and hence does not have any fixed association with any subscriber or device. • GUTI term in 5G NR is used for privacy improvement. • AMF can change allocated 5G GUTI at anytime. Total size of GUTI is 80 bits in size.

    • The term "IMSI" has been derived from "International Mobile Subscriber Identity". • IMSI structure = { MCC, MNC, MSIN } • Where MCC (Mobile Country Code) is 3 digits long, MNC (Mobile Network Code)is 2 or 3 digits long, MSIN (Mobile Subscriber Identification Number) is upto 10 digits long.

    • The term "IMEI" has been derived from "International Mobile Equipment Identity". • IMEI structure = { TAC, SNR, CD } • Where, TAC (Type Allocation Code) is 8 digits long, SNR (Serial Number) is 6 digits long,CD (Check Digit) is 1 digit long.

    • The term "SUPI" has been derived from "Subscription Permanent Identifier". • It can either be IMSI or NAI (Network Access Identifier). • NAI is specified in RFC 7542 which represents network specific identity for a private network.

    • The term "SUCI" has been derived from "Subscription Concealed Identifier". • It allows SUPI to be signalled without exposing user identity. • Signalling procedures use SUCI instead of SUPI to provide privacy. • SUCI uses 'protection scheme' which can be set to 'Null' in which case SUPI is visible within message.Alternatively, 'protection scheme' ...

    • S-TMSI is short version of 5G-GUTI. It excludes PLMN identity and AMF Region Identity. • It can be used to identify UE within specific AMF region but can not be used to identify UE across set of AMF regions. • It is more efficient compare to GUTI due to its smaller size which reduces signalling overhead during signalling procedures. • S-TMSI stru...

    • RNTI stands for Radio Network Temporary Identifiers which are applicable within RAN (Radio Access Network). • They are allocated by BS and are subsequently stored by both BS and UE. • These RNTIs are used to address either individual UE, group of UE or all UEs. All RNTI have length of 16 bits. • For example, ➨C-RNTI can be used to address individ...

Full I-RNTI and short I-RNTI. ➨Full I-RNTI is 40 bits in length where as short I-RNTI is 24 bits in length. • In contrast to other RNTI, I-RNTI is not used to scramble CRC bits which belongs to PDCCH payload. • I-RNTI is used to addr...

GUTI (Globaly Unique Temporary ID) As the name implies, GUTI is a kind of temporary ID. Each of the UE has a couple of different kind of it's own Unique ID like IMSI, IMEI etc, but to use these unique ID all the time during the communication would make the security vulnerable.
