He was popularly called Deshbhakta, as he was a patriot who wore his love for his country on his sleeve.After his schooling at the Cotton Collegiate School in Guwahati and his higher studies at the Presidency College in Calcutta, he went to London where he studied Law and earned a Bar-at-Law degree.
Tarun Ram Phukan, son of Balaram Phukan, born in 1877, was a resident of Gauhati town in Kamrup district. He was a lecturer at Gauhati Law College, where he was forced to resign when he joined the non-cooperation movement.
Career. Tarun Ram Phukan first became a lawyer in Kolkata after meeting his desire to become a barrister. Later he was subsequently appointed professor at The Earl Law College founded in Guwahati in 1914. Importantly, he first participated in India’s freedom struggle against the British in 1914.
