- High. Compared to what we have today, the Indian indie music landscape in the 1970s was as unrecognizable as an audio cassette would be to someone born after 2000.

The word indie is short for independent, which refers to the labels that cropped up to help artists release music that didn’t fit into more defined genres.
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture [1] that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic [3] in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. [8] It originated from British post-punk [ 4 ] in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine , label , and club and gig circuit.
