Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey are two neighbouring villages in the Furness area of Cumbria, England. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, both are located in the Lake District between the village of Hawkshead and the lake of Windermere.
The attractive village of Near Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. There are two seperate hamlets – Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey, both a cluster of pictureque cottages, teas rooms and pubs. Hill Top – the home of Beatrix Potter.
Nearby Far Sawrey lies in rolling farmland and wooded hillsides by lake Windermere and was also inspiration for Potter's tales. The village of Hawkshead, with its whitewashed cottages, cobbled streets and cosy pubs is a short journey away as are scenic walks along the shores of Esthwaite Water.

As I say, I set off myself, simply heading out of the drive of my accommodation at Ees Sawrey. But Near Sawrey is a lovely little village and cannot get lost around the pace so the start is best described by heading out along the B5285 in the direction of Far Sawrey.

At the end of this path you come back to some lanes. Turn right along the road and then right again at Eel House. You can’t miss the quaint house on the corner. Continue up the narrow lane and at the next T Junction you cannot miss Near Sawrey and the finish point ahead by turning right.
