Semey (/ s ɪ ˈ m eɪ, s ɛ-/; Kazakh: Семей / Semei [sʲɪˈmʲej] (listen ⓘ)), formerly known as Semipalatinsk (Russian: Семипалатинск [sʲɪmʲɪpɐˈɫatʲɪnsk]) until 2007 and as Alash-Qala (Kazakh: Алаш-қала / Alaş-qala [ɑˌɫɑʃ‿qɑˈɫɑ]) from 1917 to 1920, is a city in eastern Kazakhstan, in the Kazakh part of Siberia.
