Vikal first studied Architecture at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, but then went on to study Acting at the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi. Vikal has worked as a multi-lingual stage actor with the Motley Theatre Company, appearing in numerous plays. In 2002, he started his film career appearing in Mango Souffle.
