Grosseto is the out-of-the-way provincial capital of the Maremma, situated 14 km from the sea coast. It’s overlooked by the majority of tourists as there are no major sights here. Probably founded in 935, Grosseto only took on its present appearance in the 20th century following the reclamation of the marshes in the surrounding area.
