Digboi (IPA: ˈdɪgˌbɔɪ) is a town and a town area committee in Tinsukia district in the north-eastern part of the state of Assam, India. Crude oil was discovered here in late 19th century and first oil well was dug in 1866. Digboi is known as the Oil City of Assam where the first oil well in Asia was drilled.
Digboi refinery is situated in the midst of pristine biodiversity. The refinery was the first amongst IOCL refineries to become BS-VI compliant. Upcoming projects: Refinery expansion project to 1.0 MMTPA has been approved with target for commissioning by October 2025.

Digboi. Digboi is situated in upper Assam in Tinsukia district which is known as the “oil city of Assam”. There are folklores that while the British were here, they used to command the labourers as “dig-boy-dig” to dig underneath for crude oil and hence the name Digboi.
