Atsugi (厚木) is a city in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Generally known as a commuter city, Atsugi does have a few local attractions. Although the name Atsugi is also synonymous with the name of the United States Navy Base, the base is actually in the neighboring communities of Ayase and Yamato.
The 1,249 acres of Naval Air Facility Atsugi lies in the heart of the Kanto Plain on the main island of Japan, Honshu, Kanagawa (Prefecture), Ayase (ah-ya-sey). Co-located with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF), it is located about 16 km west of Yokohama and about 36 km southwest of Tokyo.
