Born in September 1983in Shanghai, China, Fang had her formal ballet training at Shanghai Ballet School and the Performing Arts College of Shanghai Drama University. In 2000 and 2001, she won four international ballet competitions awards, as listed below.
Fang joined ABT Studio Company in 2002. She became an apprentice with American Ballet Theatre in April 2003 and a member of the corps de ballet in January 2004.
