History. Betis was founded in 1907, under the name of Sevilla Balompié. In 1914, the club was merged with Betis Football Club, a breakaway from Sevilla FC. From that moment onwards, the club has been known as Real Betis Balompié. The club switched to their now-famous green and white jerseys in 1920. La Liga title, followed by hard times.
Real Betis Balompié was founded on September 12th 1907. The Club was granted the honorary title 'Real' in 1914 by King Alfonso XIII. Real Betis name is one of the few in Spanish football that is made using only words that are Spanish in origin, and the oldest of them all.

Betis Balompié (without the “Real” during the Second Spanish Republic) was the first Andalusian club to promote to the First Division.
