Leo Strauss is increasingly recognized as one of the most important thinkers of the twentieth century.

  3. Biography. Leo Strauss was born in 1899 in the town of Kirchhain in Hesse, Germany, where his father sold farm equipment. He was raised in an observant Jewish home, though one without much Jewish learning. Strauss graduated from the Gymnasium Philippinum in nearby Marburg in 1917.
