It was not revived until 1920 when it was substantially cut and provided with a new overture arranged by Geoffrey Toye.

It ran for 288 performances over 8 months. It is the tenth of the fourteen operettas written by Gilbert and Sullivan.
It seems that Ruddigore has never quite recovered from that simple reaction. The subject of the satire is the genre of theatrical melodrama which was hugely popular in the mid-nineteenth century.
