- Cascade Falls Hike. Cascade Falls has to be one of the prettiest hiking trails in South Lake Tahoe. A short jaunt from the Emerald Bay parking area brings you face-to-face with a small, but stunning waterfall.
- Angora Lakes Trail. You can technically drive to the shores of these lakes, but the 1.2-mile hike to the lake is worth it. You’ll pass two other small lakes and ponds along the way.
- Pope Baldwin Bike Path. Alright, so this is a slightly longer path, but it’s paved and pretty flat making it an accessible option for people with strollers or wheelchairs.
- Vikingsholm Trail. This quick, but steep hillside takes you down from the views of Emerald Bay right to the shoreline. Here you’ll find the historic Vikingsholm house – a mansion built long ago.
The majestic Sierra Nevada surrounds America’s largest alpine lake, Lake Tahoe. Straddling two states, California and Nevada, on the southwest end of Lake Tahoe, the town of South Lake Tahoe sits on the California/Nevada border, with Stateline, Nevada, as its sister city. It’s hard to know when you’ve left one state and entered another.
The hike could start from Eagle Point in Emerald Bay State Park and go all the way to Calawee Cove in the north over a distance of about 7 miles (oneway). The trail wraps around the Emerald Bay and provides gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe the whole way. There are several intermediate access points to get on the trail.
