So I watched the first Die Hard yesterday and really enjoyed it. Watched Die Hard 2 today, and I had a hard time getting into it because of the plot holes: General Esperanza is a high profile political prisoner. Why on earth is there just ONE security guard on the whole plane escorting him???
Of the original three Die Hard movies, Die Hard 2 (1990) has aged the worst. The OG Die Hard remains one of the greatest (and most influential) action movies of all time. So many action movies in the 90s (Under Siege, Speed, Air Force One, etc.) owe themselves to it.
The film was released to generally positive reviews with critics praising the film's action and tone while criticizing elements of the plot. Die Hard 2 was a major box-office success, grossing $240 million and doubling the earnings of its predecessor and finishing as the year's seventh-highest-grossing film.
- Harlin was first hired by 20th Century Fox to make Alien 3, but when that fell apart he was instead offered The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. The studio liked the dailies from that film so much that they offered him Die Hard 2.
- It was a particularly light year for snow across the U.S. that year, so fake snow was trucked in from Canada for filming. They also secured snow blankets to the ground, covering acres of land, but the 747’s engines blew the blankets into the air stripping the airfield of “snow.”
- They shot airport exteriors at the Denver airport where this takes place and interiors at LAX.
- The pay phones in the “Denver” airport say Pacific Bell on them, and “that was purely my inexperience” as he was unaware about U.S. phone companies being regional.

It also contains one of the most shocking moments in any action movie. When the villains (led by Col Stuart, brilliantly played by William Sadler) crash a plane full of innocent men, women, and children, and John McClane is absolutely helpless to stop them.
