Mar 11, 2022 · Though minimalist indie post-apocalyptic films are becoming a sub-genre of their own, Gold is just a good movie. No caveats. Hayes’ vision is exquisite and Efron is on a higher plane of acting. Gold is mysterious, haunting, and exhilarating, a minor miracle given only four people speak and the entire film takes place in a desert.
Gritty and minimalist, Gold is a desert survival story with an ending that could've been better, but the movie's lead performance by Zac Efron is compelling enough to maintain viewer interest.
