Forlì, city, Emilia-Romagna regione, northern Italy, situated on the Montone River and the Via Aemilia, southeast of Bologna. Known to the Romans as Forum Livii, it is said to have been founded by the consul Livius Salinator in the 2nd century bc.
The history of Forlì’s first Patron saint is intertwined with that of the current Patroness: the Madonna of the Fire (Madonna del Fuoco). In fact, alongside the Chapel dedicated to Saint Valerian inside Forlì’s Cathedral you can now visit that of the city’s Patroness.
