Aldgate ( / ˈɔːlɡeɪt /) was a gate in the former defensive wall around the City of London. The gate gave its name to Aldgate High Street, the first stretch of the A11 road, that takes that name as it passes through the ancient, extramural Portsoken Ward of the City of London.

Aldgate Square is just on the edge of the City of London as you head into the East End. It is a stone's throw from Aldgate Tube station and Aldgate East is just a little further down the road and really close by. There are plenty of buses running from Aldgate into the City and West End and into East and South London as well.

Are there other areas you should look at? That depends where you want to go. Look at a map, look at Transport for London site to see how you would get around.
