Murlidhar Devidas Amte (pronunciation ⓘ), popularly known as Baba Amte, (26 December 1914 – 9 February 2008) was an Indian social worker and social activist known particularly for his work for the rehabilitation and empowerment of people suffering from leprosy.
Baba Amte & Dr Vikas Amte transformed a barren land into an oasis, which today is a home for around 2500 people including leprosy survivors, physically challenged, orphans, destitute and people who had lost hope to survive.

Feb 9, 2008 · Murlidhar Devidas Amte, better known as Baba Amte was an Indian social worker and activist who worked for the empowerment of poor suffering from leprosy. From a child born with a silver spoon, Baba Amte dedicated his life to serve the downtrodden people of the society.
Vikas Amte, Baba Amte's elder son, is the chief functionary at Anandwan. He undertook various experiments in Anandwan regarding rehabilitation which have been mentioned in a book titled 'Anandwan Prayogwan'.
