Keshav Sitaram Thackeray (17 September 1885 – 20 November 1973; born Keshav Sitaram Panvelkar, also known as Keshav Sitaram Thakre and Keshav Sitaram Dhodapkar, but commonly known by his pen name Prabodhankar Thackeray), was an Indian social reformer, writer and politician.
Sitaram Panvelkar (Dhodapkar), son of Krushnaji Madhav Dhodapkar, was the grandfather of Bal Thackeray. Prahodhankar Keshav Sitaram Dhodapkar (Panvelkar), the father of Bala sahib, adopted the ‘Thackeray’ surname from a British writer, was born on 17 September 1885 at Panvel in Kulaba (Raigad district).
Keshav Thackeray's great-grandfather Krishnaji Madhav (popularly known as Appasaheb) lived at Pali in Raidgad district of Maharashtra. His grandfather, Sitaram settled in Panvel and adopted Panvelkar as surname.
