Her father was Salomon (1887–1943), and was parnas (warden) in the local Jewish community; he may have worked as a salesman. Her mother was Grietje Minco-van Hoorn (1889–1943). She had a brother, David, and a sister, Bettie.

Marga Minco, born Sara Menco in 1920, is a pseudonym for a Dutch Jewish author who survived the Nazi occupation and wrote about her experiences. She is known for her novels Bitter Herbs, The Other Side, and The Fall, among others.
Marga Minco (b. 1920) grew up in a family of five in Breda. Unlike her sister, brother and parents, she went into hiding during World War II. In 1957 she made her debut as a writer with 'Het bittere kruid' (Bitter Herbs), the laconic and devastating story of a young girl who escapes through a back door when her family is arrested, and ultimately discovers that she has lost everyone close to her.
