LaGuardia Arts is a large, NYC Specialized High School and the only Specialized High School that admits students based on a competitive audition and not the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT.) Performance. 99% of students graduate in four years. 81% of students enroll in college or career programs.
LaGuardia Arts remains the sole specialized school for the arts. We were also the first in the nation to provide a free, publicly funded high school dedicated to the arts. Our model has been replicated in other urban school districts throughout the country and the world.
Students at LaGuardia take a full academic course load while participating in conservatory-style arts concentration. Each student majors in one studio, choosing from either Dance, Drama, Art, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, or Technical Theater.
APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINES. APPLY BETWEEN OCTOBER 3 - DECEMBER 1, 2023. The 25 DOE high schools that offer audition programs all use the same common audition components across programs in the same arts discipline (such as visual art or dance).
The LaGuardia Symphony Orchestra ("Junior Orchestra") was formed with the goal of exposing students to more complex and professional repertoire. The LaGuardia Philharmonic ("Senior Orchestra") accepts students through a secondary audition process. It is one of LaGuardia's best known ensembles.
