Upsala is an unincorporated community and geographic township in Thunder Bay District in northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is located along the Trans-Canada Highway, Highway 17, 142 kilometres (88 mi) west of Thunder Bay, part of the Unorganized Thunder Bay District . It was named after the city of Uppsala in Sweden.
Ten years after the establishment of the Township of Upsala, and almost half a century after the first rail line from Winnipeg to Montreal was completed, the section of the Trans-Canada highway from Thunder Bay to Upsala was completed in November 1933. The first labour boards in the area were established for road gangs beginning in 1924.
