In the first millennium of the Common Era (CE), Mississippian culture people, known locally as the Mound Indians or Stone Box Indians, built complex earthwork mounds topped with ceremonial buildings. Their settlement was part of a culture that throughout the Mississippi Valley and its major tributaries, and traded with other groups across the continent.

This historic mansion, which is now run as a museum, winery, and restaurant, is on 30 acres of land. In the late 19th century, this plantation was full of over a hundred slaves on its 5,400 acres.
History. For more than 500 years, Brentwood’s beautiful rolling hills have made it an ideal place to raise a family. In the 15 th century, Native Americans set up homes in this area, developing villages, and building massive mounds that still stand today. Later, an 1858 newspaper ad lauded the young Village of Brentwood’s potential, stating that as a “retreat for health and pure air (every lot being shaded by forest growth) it cannot be excelled.”
The 1930s Era. Brentwood continued to be a small village with outlying farms well past the middle of the 20 th century. The invention of the automobile brought some increase in activity, allowing families to live in Brentwood and commute to Nashville to work and shop.
