In April 2022, Matheesha Pathirana was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for the 2022 Indian Premier League for Rs. 20 lakhs. He came as a replacement for the New Zealand cricketer Adam Milne. On 15 May 2022, Matheesha played his first IPL match for Chennai Super Kings against Gujarat Titans.
