Het kolenmengsel verandert in harde brokken kooks, waarbij kooksgas ontstaat dat andere fabrieken op ons terrein aandrijft. Als de kooks gaar zijn, worden deze direct geblust met water. Daarbij ontstaan indrukwekkende stoomwolken. Hierna zijn de kooks klaar voor gebruik in de Hoogovens.
