Georges Rodenbach (born July 16, 1855, Tournai, Belg.—died Dec. 25, 1898, Paris, France) was a Belgian Symbolist poet and novelist whose writing was inspired by scenes of his native country. Rodenbach studied law at the University of Ghent, Belgium, and continued his studies in Paris.

Georges Rodenbach was born in Tournai to a French mother and a German father from the Rhineland (Andernach). He went to school in Ghent at the prestigious Sint-Barbaracollege, where he became friends with the poet Emile Verhaeren. Rodenbach worked as a lawyer and journalist.
Born in Tournai on 16 July 1855, illustrating Flemish themes in French language, Georges Rodenbach was the first Belgian writer to be successful in Paris. A few months after he was born, his parents settled in Ghent and Georges lived there during his childhood and adolescence.
