The Queen's College is a constituent college of the University of Oxford, England. [2] The college was founded in 1341 by Robert de Eglesfield in honour of Philippa of Hainault, queen of England. [3] It is distinguished by its predominantly neoclassical architecture, primarily dating from the 18th century.

“Hall of the Queen’s Scholars at Oxford” was founded in 1341 by Robert de Eglesfield, a chaplain in the household of Queen Philippa, who named it in her honour. He envisaged an establishment of fellows, chaplains, ‘poor boys’ and various officials and servants, headed by a Provost.

In a charter granted by Edward III on 18 Jan. 1341, licence was given to Robert of Eglesfield to construct a collegiate hall 'under the name of the Hall of the Queen's scholars of Oxford'. (fn. 1) The idea of establishing such university halls was then in fashion on the Continent as well as in England.
