Rafael Cobos López was born in 1973 in Seville. After starting studies in medicine, he dropped out and switched to a degree in audiovisual communication. Together with Rodríguez, Cobos has penned the screenplays of the films 7 Virgins (2005), After, Marshland (2014), Smoke & Mirrors (2016), Prison 77 (2022) and the television series La peste.

Rafael Cobos López realizó estudios de Medicina y Derecho antes de iniciar Comunicación Audiovisual en la Universidad de Sevilla.Es principalmente conocido por sus guiones para cine y especialmente fructífera ha sido su colaboración con el director Alberto Rodríguez, al que ya coincidió en la Universidad, con el que ha coescrito los guiones de casi todas sus películas y junto al que ha ganado dos premios Goya en 2015 por La isla mínima y por El hombre de las mil caras (2017).
