Nurbanu Sultan (Ottoman Turkish: نور بانو سلطان; "queen of light", c. 1525/1527 – 7 December 1583) was Haseki Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and the legal wife of Sultan Selim II (reign 1566–1574), as well as Valide Sultan (Sultana mother) as the mother of Sultan Murad III (reign 1574–1583).
Nurbanu Sultan, Murad's mother, was upset with Safiye's influence on Murad, and wanted to replace her with another concubines of the harem. She even led a faction in the court from 1577 to 1580 in opposition to her mother-in-law and her faction.

The benevolent haseki (sultan’s favourite woman) of Ottoman Sultan Selim II (B. 1525, Paros – D. December 6th, 1587, Istanbul). Her real name was Cecilia Venier-Baffo. She was the main wife of Selim II and the mother of Murad III.
Nurbanu became the “first lady” of the princely harem and was promoted to leadership of the imperial harem when the Prince ascended the throne as Selim II, “Grand Sultan, Commander of the Faithful and Successor of the Prophet of the Lord of the Universe” in 1566.
