John Bennett Vartanian, 58 of Fort Payne, passed away, causing Alabama fans from all over to put in calls to the Alabama Fan Club in Fort Payne, questioning the cause of his death, according to Misty Monroe with the club.
The group became a professional band in 1972, adding drummer Bennett Vartanian and changing their name to Wildcountry. During this time, the group accepted a position playing at the now-defunct Canyon Land theme park near Fort Payne.
In 1972, they recruited friend of Jeff’s, Bennett Vartanian, as the band’s drummer. In 1973, the band moved from Fort Payne (Alabama) to Myrtle Beach (South Carolina), where they became the house band at a club called “The Bowery.”
