Katha. The Katha Upanishad is the legendary story of a little boy, Nachiketa – the son of Sage Vajasravasa, who meets Yama (the deity of death). Their conversation evolves to a discussion of the nature of man, knowledge, Atman (Soul, Self) and Moksha (liberation).
About 50% of the 300 million children in India cannot read well. Katha uses technology as lever to reach books to the remotest of areas to enhance the joy of reading and building a nation of reader-learners! The ebooks and mobile application will go into the hands of grassroots volunteers and mentors in rural/urban India in multiple languages.
Katha has been helping children grow up to be India’s reader–leaders. We work to enhance the joy of reading and the love of books among children. Through cooperative action and activism, we bring together parents, teachers and everyone concerned about children’s lack of interest in reading.
Since inception, Katha has provided alternative education to 9.8 million children living in the slums of Delhi NCR, trained 20,000 government school teachers in ‘storypedagogy’ and has networked with 3,000 librarians to enhance the reading skills of more than 1 million children aged 5-17 years.
For 35 years KATHA has been harnessing the power of stories to spark curiosity and a desire to learn in children across the world, especially those from underserved communities. Every KATHA book is designed to encourage the little people of our world to make big differences!
