Forrest Gump is a 1994 American comedy-drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth. It is an adaptation of the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom, and stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field. The film follows the life of an Alabama man named Forrest Gump (Hanks) and his experiences in the 20th-century United States.

These laudable characteristics are the result of an upbringing by his mother (Sally Field) which has seen him grow from the bullied young boy from Alabama who discovers that he can run a little faster than your average bear, to a sort of national hero.

The movie’s warm, comic spirit made it a favourite of many viewers, though others decried it as cliché-riddled. Hanks won a rare second consecutive best-actor Oscar for his portrayal of Gump.
