The Last Step ( Persian: پله آخر, romanized : Pelle âxar) is Ali Mosaffa 's second feature film, following Portrait of a Lady Far Away (2005), featuring Leila Hatami, Ali Mosaffa, and Alireza Aghakhani. The screenplay was partly inspired by Leo Tolstoy 's 1886 novella The Death of Ivan Ilyich and James Joyce 's short story "The Dead".
A movie star, Leili, struggles with grief and laughter after losing her husband, Khosrow, who still appears to her in her dreams. The Last Step is a Persian drama that explores the process of mourning and the power of memory.
Critics reviews. In director Ali Mosaffa’s psychological story, his wife in real life, Leila Hatami, pretty much plays herself – a beautiful and gifted Iranian film star. But the male focus of the story is the heroine’s recently deceased husband Koshrow.
Actress Leila's on set behavior has become somewhat erratic as she is struggling with her husband's recent death. Here, their complicated yet loving relationship unfolds as a delicately ironic detective story inside the elusive time of memory.
