Mr. X is a character and antagonist from the 1998 survival horror video game Resident Evil 2 and its 2019 remake, both part of the Resident Evil franchise created by the Japanese company Capcom. Also known as the T-00 Tyrant , part of a series of intelligent bioweapons developed by the Umbrella Corporation , Mr. X pursues protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield for a large portion of the game.
It is possible this name was the result of a mistake on Capcom USA's part, as in multiple occasions it gave out early concept art of T-00 to licensees, which included one known as "Tyrant X" in Japan. Assuming this, the first instance of "Mr. X" was GameFan's Resident Evil 2 guide, which was published alongside the game though written in 1997.

Mr. X was a series of bio-weapon designed by the Umbrella Corporation. Its appearance was similar to the Tyrant. The only known Mr. X was dropped by an Umbrella helicopter onto the Raccoon City Police Department precinct to silence the company's enemies.[1] It was killed almost immediately by Claire Redfield.[2] The design for Mr. X is based on prototype concept art for T-00.[3] The reason for the discrepancy is that Capcom USA had provided licensees with outdated artwork, unaware of the change.
