Sep 16, 2006 · Sun Scarred is one of his latest films, and even though it's the 45th Miike film I've seen, it's still very difficult to compare it to his other work. I believe Sun Scarred is the first Miike film I've watched that strives for a certain level of credibility.

Coming across a gang of teenage hooligans beating a lone man to the edge of death, Katayama intervenes forcefully –- and successfully. But the system treats him as the villain in the matter, and that’s only the beginning of Katayama’s painful lesson that crime does not pay, but standing in its way may cost you dearly.
Sun Scarred takes its cues from the Death Wish series, but it is not an exploitation film (although the original Death Wish isn't either). Succeeding where Harry Brown failed, Sun Scarred is a damning report of modern life and raises questions about an often unfair legal system.
