The Renegade Ranger is a 1938 American Western film directed by David Howard. [2] It was the first film Tim Holt made for RKO, for whom he would be one of the studio's biggest stars. [3]
The Renegade Ranger was considered one of the best of the more than two dozen pictures O'Brien made with director David Howard between 1932 and 1940. Variety told readers it was "a very good western, filled with brawling, gunning and outlawry" and praised its "above average" photography and sound.

The Rangers send Jack Steel to bring in wanted murderer Judith Alvarez. He is on hand when Sanderson's men attack and he saves her life. This gets him into her gang where he gradually realizes she is innocent and Sanderson is the one he is after.
