The Welts (Polish: Pręgi) is a 2004 Polish drama film by Magdalena Piekorz in her feature film directorial debut. It was Poland's submission to the 77th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee.
It is the mid-1980s. After his mother's death, twelve-year-old Wojtek (Wacek Adamczyk) is living with only his father — his mother died when the boy was still very young. His father (Jan Frycz) is a man of extremely strict principles. He would like to raise his son to be tough but is unable to show Wojtek any affection, and his child-rearing methods produce the opposite effects.
