Fantastic state park to visit, but the time of year you go really matters. This place would be best enjoyed in the autumn months instead of the summer. This park has a lot to offer boaters and wildlife watchers. Best views of Choke Canyon Reservoir are going to be near the boat ramp and small shop.

Choke Canyon reservoir has varied types of habitat including steep rocky banks, flooded timber, shallow brushy flats, and creek channels. Water in the lower portion of the reservoir remains fairly clear throughout the year, while the upper portion of the Frio River channel is typically stained.
