In this vaguely-similar remake of Hoot Gibson's silent version from Universal, Jim Reardon, seeking the man who murdered his father, poses as Horace McPhail, long-absent son of rancher "Roaring Dan" McPhail.
When Dan finds Horace drinking with Thorndyke, the leader of a gang of rustlers who have been ruthlessly ambushing range riders and stealing their herds, Dan denounces his son and Tick takes the young tenderfoot to the Brooks ranch until Dan has time to cool off.
Johnny is the son of Roaring Dan, a notorious outlaw who was shot dead by Jim McCloud, the town sheriff. Because of his father's reputation, Johnny is not well-liked by the townspeople and is forced to leave his hometown.
