István Kovács (Romanian: Ştefan Covaci; Hungarian: Kovács István; 2 October 1920 – 12 May 1995) was a Romanian football player and coach. Having won 15 major titles, he is one of the most successful association football coaches in the history of the game.

In his two seasons at Ajax he won 2x Eredivisie, 2x European Cup, 1x Club World Cup, 1x UEFA Super Cup, 1x KNVB Cup. With Kovacs as their manager Ajax set several Eredivisie records that still stand today: Biggest win in the Eredivisie: 12-1 vs Vitesse. Most consecutive wins in an Eredivisie season: 19 in 1971/72.
