Baldeo Das Birla (1863 – 1956) was an Indian entrepreneur. He contributed to the establishment of the Medical College Calcutta , and also built the Laxminarayan Temple , Delhi, also known as Birla Mandir , which was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939.
Baldeo Das Birla opened the Birla School in Pilani, Rajasthan in 1918. It is one of the oldest schools in Rajasthan. He later opened a Sanskrit library in Banaras and a miscellaneous library in Calcutta. He was closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi and funded Gandhiji’s Swaraj Movement.
Baldeo Das Birla. Shiv Narayan Birla had one overwhelming sorrow in his life: he had no children. By the early 1880s, Shiv Narayan (Narain) had passed on the baton of his business interests to his adopted son, Baldev Das Birla, established Shivnarayan Baldevdas, a trading house based in Bombay.
The construction of the temple dedicated to Laxmi Narayana started in 1933, built by industrialist and philanthropist, Baldeo Das Birla and his son Jugal Kishore Birla of the Birla family, thus, the temple is also known as Birla Temple.
