The Wind Singer itself I found improved the more I got into it. The two subsequesnt volumes get darker and bleaker, but still make good reading for mid teen people. The first volume is very suitable for lower teen age. After reading The Wind Singer I rushed straight into Slaves of the Mastery and then read Fire Song in the course of three days.
