Antonio Ascari (15 September 1888 – 26 July 1925) was an Italian Grand Prix motor racing champion. He won four Grands Prix before his premature death at the 1925 French Grand Prix. He was the father of two-time World Champion Alberto Ascari.

Antonio Ascari was born near Mantua, in the Lombardy region of Italy, the son of a corn dealer. He began racing cars at the top levels in Italy in 1919, using a modified 1914 Fiat. Along with Enzo Ferrari, in 1919 he raced in the first Targa Florio held after the end of World War I but did not finish after crashing into a deep ravine. His bad luck there continued in 1920 and 1921 but in 1922 he finished a strong fourth.

Apr 25, 2021 · Antonio Ascari tragically died on 26 July, 1925, as the reigning European champion, the result of a crash while leading the French Grand Prix at Autodrome de Montlhéry, located south of Paris.
During lap 23 of the 1925 French Grand Prix at the Montlhéry Autodrome near Paris, a voice on the loudspeaker informed spectators that the leading Alfa Romeo, driven by Italy’s Antonio Ascari, had crashed. Later in the race, the same voice announced that Ascari had died on his way to hospital.
