Started by Captain Joy Webb, each member of the Joystrings was in the process of training to be a Salvation Army officer (pastor). It was General Frederick Coutts, the newly-elected General who believed The Salvation Army should capitalize on the popularity of “Beat Music.”
The Joystrings formed in 1963 & all members were in the Salvation Army in the UK. Major Joy Webb (Joy was a Captain at the time) is listed as the founder of the Joystrings. "It's an open Secret' entered the charts in 1964 & rose to the dizzy heights of 32. Not bad for a Christian beat group!
