Hechter Ubarry, an actor working and living in New York City. I grew up in Harlem where music was ever present in our home. I made my first stage appearance in the 4th grade at PS 119, playing Prince Charming in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".

Hechter's first movie was The Cross and the Switchblade (1970) which is based on a true story. He was featured as Moonlight, a gang member in the Mau Mau's. He is credited under his birth name, Hector Mercado, for that role.
Before graduating from the high school of Performing Arts, I was offered a job performing in a production of Bye Bye Birdie in San Antonio, Texas starring Raul Julia and eight weeks later was offered my first Broadway show, The Royal Hunt Of The Sun starring Christopher Plummer.

Man of La Mancha. When Man Of La Mancha opened on Broadway in 1965, I was in another Broadway show called The Royal Hunt Of The Sun starring Christopher Plummer, David Carradine and George Rose. In 1968 I read in the Backstage newspaper that a Bus & Truck national tour was being planned for. Man Of La Mancha.
