Warren William (born Warren William Krech; December 2, 1894 – September 24, 1948) was a Broadway and Hollywood actor, immensely popular during the early 1930s; he was later nicknamed the "King of Pre-Code". He was the first actor to play Perry Mason.
Warren William was a leading man of pre-Code talkies, starring in films like The Mouthpiece, The Match King, and The Maltese Falcon. He also played Philo Vance, Perry Mason, and The Lone Wolf in various adaptations.

Apr 1, 2015 · Biography. He was born Warren William Krech on December 2, 1894 in Aitkin, Minnesota. He worked as Warren Krech for the first few years of his professional acting career, but dropped the Krech for billing under his more alliterative first two names early in 1924.
It was based on the play by Emil Fabre, from the Honoré de Balzac novel, La Rabouilleuse. This was the talkie debut for Warren William who would become one of the major stars for Warner Brothers over the next five years. It also marked Dita Parlo's first English-speaking role.
