May 2, 2023 · BUDAPEST: Hungarian director/writer/producer Gábor Dettre is currently in postproduction with his feature film Silent Night / Csendes éj, which was entirely crowfounded through a campaign that ran from December 2022 to January 2023. The film will be released in Hungarian cinemas on Christmas 2023.
Gábor Dettre was born on 24 September 1956 in Debrecen, Hungary. He is a director and producer, known for A színésznö és a halál (1995), Csendes éj and The Diary of the Hurdy-Gurdy Man (1999).

Gabriel Dettre (also Gábor Dettre) is an internationally acclaimed producer, director and writer and has taught film directing at New York University, Szeged University, Miskolc University, Baltic Film- and Media School, Tallinn University. and has conducted workshops worldwide.

One day he is called to the scene of the murder of a wealthy trafficker. He begins to investigate the crime, interrogate suspects and untangle a complex situation.

Antigoné: Directed by Gábor Dettre. With Kamilla Fátyol, Zoltán Mucsi, Hermina Fátyol, Krisztián Kovács. The film is a visually modern, very puritanical rendition of the classical texts of Sophocles about power and spirituality, about traditions and the heartless new world.
After graduation from law school in 1979, he emigrated to the US for political reasons. Studied film-making and then taught editing at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. After having made several long and short features, documentaries and television programs for CBS he moved back to his native Hungary in 1994. He has won many awards both in the US and in Hungary as well as at different international festivals.
