Bhimsain (born Bhimsain Khurana; November 24, 1936 – April 17, 2018) was an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter and animator. He is best known as the pioneer of Indian animation, along with his mentor Ram Mohan. He was the recipient of 16 President's National Awards for his contributions to Indian cinema.
A Man Ahead of His Time. If there is a singular word to describe Bhimsain (24 November, 1936 – 17 April, 2018), it is ‘multi-faceted’. In a career spanning over five decades, he assumed many mantles - animator, filmmaker, painter, musician - and left his mark every time.
Considered as India's animation pioneer and avant-garde film maker, Bhimsain is one of the pioneers of parallel cinema movement in India of the 70s. Born in Multan (now Pakistan) in 1936, Bhimsain moved to Lucknow after the partition.
